After 68 years, Dearman’s Diner opens second, experimental location in Baton Rouge. See where.

Dearman’s Diner first opened in 1958 at 7633 Jefferson Highway in Baton Rouge serving burgers, hot dogs, fries, shakes and more, but now patrons can get a taste of something new: Dearman’s South, a second, experimental location.

Currently soft-opened, the new location on the patio at Brickyard South will host a grand opening on Saturday, Aug. 29.

“This is a spinoff of that where we can experiment,” said Dearman’s Diner owner Casey Evans.

Brickyard South opened in 2014 at 174 South Blvd., and in addition to the dive-bar atmosphere, it often hosts performers and local artists. Upon entering the patio with benches and high-top seating, customers can now order diner fare from the window of a small, cherry-red, bus-turned kitchen.

Menu rundown

The menu at Dearman’s South is similar to the original location, serving smaller plates built for the patio atmosphere. It starts with the classics that longtime patrons have returned to for decades.

“We have several of our classic Dearman’s items, but they’re smaller-sized pieces,” Evans said. “We have our burger, grilled chicken sandwich, fried chicken sandwich, fries.”…
