BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) – A woman was sentenced Thursday, Aug. 20, to 25 years in prison for manslaughter in connection with a fatal shooting in the Tigerland area in 2024.
Angelique Chatman was sentenced by Judge Donald Johnson in the 19th Judicial District Court in the death of Sirena Franklin, 39.
What happened in the shooting
The Baton Rouge Police Department said officers responded to the 4700 block of Tigerland Avenue off of Nicholson Drive around 11:45 a.m. Monday, March 11, 2024, in connection with a shooting.
When officers arrived at the scene, they found Franklin with a gunshot wound. She was taken to a hospital, where she later died.
During the investigation, detectives identified Chatman as a suspect. Police said Franklin and Chatman were involved in a physical and verbal altercation. At some point, police said, Franklin was trying to walk away when she was shot by Chatman…
