Fans questioned the controversial game-ending strikeout call on the California (Sweetwater Valley Little League, West Region champion) hitter in the Little League World Series opener against Iowa (Davenport Northwest Little League, Midwest Region champion) on Friday night.
With the bases loaded, two outs, and a full count in the top of the ninth, Davenport Northwest closer Anthony Johnson Jr. threw the final pitch, which was clearly outside the strike zone but was called a strike by the home plate umpire, leaving the Sweetwater Valley hitter perplexed as the call sealed a 1-0 no-hitter for the Midwest Region champions.
