Texas Continues Baking as Afternoon Heat Indices Reach as High as 113 Degrees Near Texarkana Lufkin Dallas and Idabel Today

TEXAS — Texas continues to bake under another round of extreme heat this afternoon, with heat index values climbing well past 100 degrees across much of the state. Model projections show some of the highest readings concentrated in the eastern half of Texas, including areas near Texarkana, Lufkin, and Dallas.

Northeast Texas Sees Some of the Highest Heat Index Values

Texarkana is projected to see a heat index of 113 degrees this afternoon, among the highest readings anywhere in the state. Nearby Idabel is also expected to reach 111 degrees, while Denison and Ardmore are forecast to hit 109 and 108 degrees respectively.

Dallas is projected to reach a heat index of 112 degrees, with Wichita Falls and Graham both expected to see readings of 108 and 109 degrees. The combination of heat and humidity continues to make outdoor conditions dangerous across this stretch of the state.

East Texas and the Gulf Coast Also Facing Extreme Heat

Lufkin is expected to see one of the highest heat index values in the state at 113 degrees, with Palestine not far behind at 112 degrees. Tyler and Shreveport are both projected to reach around 110 and 111 degrees as the heat continues gripping East Texas.

Along the Gulf Coast, Houston is forecast to reach a heat index of 111 degrees, with Beaumont projected slightly higher at 111 degrees as well. Galveston and Corpus Christi are expected to see somewhat lower but still dangerous readings near 106 and 107 degrees.

Central and South Texas Remain Hot but Slightly Lower

Austin is projected to reach a heat index of 110 degrees, while San Antonio and Victoria are both expected to see readings around 107 degrees. College Station is forecast to hit 111 degrees as the extreme heat continues to blanket the majority of the state…
