Queen Creek is considering tighter restrictions on its automated license plate readers – including potentially making misuse of the technology a misdemeanor – even as police say the cameras provided critical leads in more than 2,400 cases during the last fiscal year.
The proposed safeguards come amid mounting controversy over Flock Safety license plate readers in the Valley, where officers in several communities have been accused of improperly using the powerful vehicle-search technology.
