MBTA Details $140 Million ‘Haverhill Double Track’ Construction Project

BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — The MBTA detailed Monday a $139.6 million, federally-funded project that is set to improve performance across the Haverhill Line by adding a second track.

This upgrade will add about 6.8 miles of new track between Reading and Andover to allow for trains going in different directions to move past each other rather then have to wait for one train at a time to pass.

Stations in Reading, North Wilmington, Ballardvale and Andover will also be upgraded to be more accessible. The MBTA says that the project will also increase capacity and speed for the Commuter Rail, Amtrak, and freight service as well…
