Birmingham hotel, condo project faces rezoning request as neighbors share concerns

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) – An upscale hotel and condo project is back in front of Birmingham city leaders this week.

The developer wants to rezone land next to the Red Mountain Expressway, but some neighbors in the Redmont Park and Highland Park communities say the project does not belong in their neighborhood.

David Silverstein, who led the development of The Summit shopping center and the Pizitz building downtown, said he is promising to cap the height of the project at 1240 22nd St. S to 115 feet.
