With the impending retirement of Chuck Henry, Lynette Herbert has been selected as health officer and administrator of the Florida Department of Health in Sarasota County, which has the dual role as the county’s director of health and human services.
Her appointment was confirmed by the Sarasota County Commission during its Tuesday meeting.
Henry, who has served the department since 2002 and assumed his current role in 2011, is set to retire Sept. 30. Prior to joining DOH-Sarasota County, Henry served for 24 years in the U.S. Navy as both a hospital corpsman and a commissioned officer in the Medical Service Corps.
Herbert brings more than 20 years of experience spanning public health, human services, local government and the nonprofit sector to the role. She will lead more than 200 full-time employees serving roughly 400,000 residents across six county locations.
