OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) – A partial lunar eclipse is expected to occur tonight into early Friday morning creating a shadow and eventually a red color over the moon.
In case you don’t know, a lunar eclipse is when the Earth passes between the sun and moon, blocking sunlight from reaching the lunar surface and creating a shadow on the moon.
A partial lunar eclipse means the Earth does not completely block out the sunlight from the moon. Tonight’s lunar eclipse will have a peak coverage of 93%.
Due to the partial blockage, the sunlight reflects off of the Earth’s atmosphere. The light reflection bends in the Earth’s atmosphere creating a red color on the surface of the moon…
