Sunday will be the start of a much wetter pattern across south Louisiana. Showers and thunderstorms become more widespread today and continue through much of the work week.
Today and Tonight: A few more showers and thunderstorms will develop today, with rain chances increasing through the afternoon. This due to low pressure over the northern Gulf and additional tropical moisture that will flow into the region. While generally eastern and coastal areas are more likely to see storms, areas farther inland, including Baton Rouge, should only expect a stray shower.
Up Next: The active pattern continues through the work week as deep tropical moisture moves into the region in waves. Monday and Tuesday will bring additional rounds of showers and thunderstorms, with the potential for locally heavy rainfall in localized areas. Rain chances remain somewhat elevated into the middle and latter part of the week, although the exact timing and coverage will depend on the movement of several disturbances. Rain won’t be constant; it should come in waves. We’re also watching for a new surge of moisture toward the Labor Day Weekend.
Tropics: The weak low in the northern Gulf, now designated AL97, has a low chance of developing as it drifts westward over the next few days. The remnants of Tropical Storm Dolly are also moving west and could provide additional moisture into the Gulf region, so the tropics will need to be watched closely. Especially for significant amounts of rain.
