(COLORADO SPRINGS) — Rosie the Riveter has been named Grand Marshal for the “In Their Honor” Veterans Day Parade taking place in November, according to a press release from the parade committee. The committee is seeking 250 women to dress as “Rosies” in matching red-and-white polka-dot bandanas and blue-collar uniforms to lead the parade celebrating the country’s 250th birthday.
According to the press release, “Rosie symbolizes the values of strength, hard work, and perseverance demonstrated by a generation of American women who rolled up their sleeves and went to work in the factories that powered the military during World War II. We celebrate those same values in our veterans, military members, and their families in Southern Colorado, recognizing that service and sacrifice extend beyond the battlefield and into the home front.”
