AURORA, Colo. (KDVR) — Aurora police are warning of a new scam happening around the Denver metro area that could leave victims without expensive or sentimental jewelry.
Aurora police say it’s a new version of what’s known as the “blessing scam,” and often starts with a seemingly innocent approach, such as a stranger asking for directions or offering a blessing or prayer. The scammer will then offer the victim a piece of worthless jewelry.

Agent Kristopher McDowell, a public information officer with Aurora police, said the interaction is usually followed by a hug or some other physical contact to create a distraction. That is when the scammer steals the jewelry the victim was already wearing.
“There have been cases where they just forcibly removed it instead of being able to remove it stealthily; they’ll just rip it right off of the victim’s neck,” McDowell said…
