Gerald Steinberg, MD, an orthopedic surgeon who held leadership roles at Amherst-based University of Massachusetts and Cambridge (Mass.) Health Alliance, died Aug. 25 at 83.
Dr. Steinberg began his orthopedic career at UMass Medical Center in Worcester, Mass., where he practiced clinically, taught as a professor of orthopedic surgery and served as chair of the Department of Orthopedics, according to his obituary. He later served as chief quality officer and chief medical officer and helped lead the merger of UMass Medical Center and Memorial Hospital.
