Michael Mott’s death captured national attention in May, when the 41-year-old snuck onto a Denver International Airport runway and walked in front of a departing plane. But Mott was not the only tragedy, a new lawsuit alleges.
Silva Ermelinda De Cervantes, a Weld County grandmother, was among the 224 passengers aboard the Frontier Airlines flight that struck Mott. One of the plane’s engines caught fire during the collision, and takeoff was aborted. Passengers were forced to evacuate down emergency slides onto the runway. At the time, airport officials reported that just 12 people sustained minor injuries.
However, eight days after the incident, Cervantes suffered a stroke and died on May 16. A lawsuit filed on Sept. 17 claims her death was caused by the “inhalation of smoke, toxic fumes and airborne combustion byproducts” during the evacuation…
