JOHNSTON, R.I. (WJAR) — Johnston Superintendent Scott Sutherland said in a letter to families that he will hold the bus company accountable as the district continues to face transportation problems.
Parents raised concerns on the first day of school last week after they said some students spent hours on buses.
Sutherland said after learning about the bus problems, he and his team identified and communicated the issues to ZUM Transportation and expected the company to make improvements.
“I directed our legal team to inform ZUM of the problems and to enforce the terms of our agreement,” Sutherland said. “ZUM’s transportation response is short of acceptable and I am holding ZUM accountable. I will continue to monitor transportation closely and make whatever adjustments are necessary until JPS has a system that is safe, reliable, and dependable for every Johnston student.”…
