Pennsylvania Attorney General Dave Sunday announced that Tina Bell, owner and manager of Superior Health, Inc., an Erie County home care agency, has been sentenced to 11 to 23 months in prison for Medicaid fraud and endangering vulnerable individuals under her care.
Bell, 56, previously pleaded guilty to felony charges of Medicaid fraud, tampering with public records, and neglect of a care-dependent person. Following her sentencing hearing September 10, Bell was immediately taken into custody to begin serving her prison term. In addition to incarceration, she was sentenced to six years of probation and ordered to pay more than $1.8 million in restitution. She is also permanently barred from participating as a Medicaid provider.
According to prosecutors, Bell carried out a scheme involving Superior Health’s shared care homes by billing Medicaid for services that were never provided and misrepresenting the qualifications of caregivers.
