Trumbull Commissioners eye moving dispatch center to Kent State

The dean of Kent State University Trumbull reached out to county Commissioner Rick Hernandez, to discuss the potential for moving the 911 dispatch center into one of their rooms.

“We are looking for ways to use spaces on our campus that we don’t have a need for. we have more space under roof on many of our campuses than we need to support our educational operations,” Bill Ayres, KSU Trumbull dean said.

It’s a way for the university to help meet the needs of the community as well as an opportunity to work closely with police in training.

“It’s not uncommon for folks who are getting into law enforcement to work as dispatchers,” Ayres said. “In fact, many agencies actually want people to work as dispatchers before they go into becoming officers so there are some kind of natural crossovers there,” he said…
