Animals to handle lawn care at Schenectady cemetery

The cemetery’s natural burial section, called The Dell, opened in 2014 and is the intended mowing site for the furry animals. All burials in The Dell avoid embalming and use only biodegradable caskets made of wicker or pine, without hardware, and natural-fiber shrouds.

Officials at the cemetery said that using goats and sheep for lawn care has drawn visitors to see them. All of the animals are raised locally at Dutch Barn Farms in Fort Plain, and kids can greet lambs in the cemetery starting at 10 a.m.
