TROY, N.Y. (NEWS10) — New York State officials gave the Troy Police Department more than half a million dollars through a grant, and on Thursday, the city council approved it.
$586,727 to be exact. To break that down, more than $357,000 of that is allocated for new hires; more than $134,000 for overtime; more than $84,000 for fringe money; $500 for travel; $500 for training and $9,000 for an intelligence gathering software.
The software being paid for is called CLEAR Investigate, and its something the police department has been using for a year. It uses artificial intelligence to gather intel, pulling together social media posts, public records and other accessible information into one place.
