TROY — After several years of financial struggles, The Cookie Factory has closed its retail storefronts in the Collar City and Halfmoon. But its products remain available in supermarkets and convenience stores, the company announced online on Monday night.
The long farewell note from the brothers Chris Alberino and Joe Alberino, who own the business, celebrates the memories and friendships built since founding The Cookie Factory in 2006 and mentions the millions of cookies, cakes, pastries and loaves of bread made over two decades that were sold locally, shipped nationwide and at one point available in stores in 25 states. It further says Hannaford stores, Stewart’s Shops and select other retail locations will continue to carry the brand.
It does not refer to or allude to the bankruptcies, real estate auctions and other financial turmoil over the past three years, which began when a planned merger fell apart in 2023. Late the following year, after it had filed for Chapter 7 liquidation bankruptcy but was allowed by a judge to remain open, heavy rains caused a roof collapse of its production kitchen on River Street in Troy.
