LOUISVILLE, Ky. (NEWS10) — In the 151-year history of the Kentucky derby, a female trainer had never won “The Run for the Roses.” That changed Saturday night, and it was Saratoga Springs native Cherie DeVaux making history.
DeVaux’s horse, Golden Tempo, came from the back of an 18-horse field to pull off a stunning victory, beating out 5-1 favorite Renegade at the wire.
Golden Tempo, jockeyed by Jose Ortiz, started out of post 19 and closed with 23-1 odds – the highest odds for a Kentucky Derby champion since Rich Strike’s famous upset at 80-1 in 2022…
