ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10)– An Albany man will spend the next seven years in prison for attacking a stranger with a spiked wooden board in 2024. The Albany County District Attorney’s Office said John Hughes, 44, was also sentenced to five years of post-release supervision.

Officials said Hughes was convicted of second-degree assault with the intent to cause physical injury with a weapon after 17 minutes of deliberations following his two-day trial.
According to prosecutors, six witnesses including the victim himself, were called to the stand. The jury was also shown video surveillance footage of the attack.
