‘Woman in red’ identified after helping rescue man from Troy fire

TROY, N.Y. (NEWS10) —Many are calling her “The woman in red,” the Good Samaritan seen in the rescue video rushing into danger to help save a man from the recent deadly Troy fire. She’s been identified and now News10s hearing from her for the first time!

The woman’s name is Loretta Brown. On Monday she shared with News10’s Tyanna Xavier what went through her mind during those critical moments as the house on 289 5th Ave in Troy was on fire with people inside.

It all started off as a normal day as Brown was out walking to go to what she called the “Red store” with her sister and her nieces and suddenly smelled smoke.

“It wasn’t till we were actually like leaving the store that I was like, ‘No…this is really smoky out here, and it smells real bad.’ And I just happened to look down the block, and I saw the whole porch was up in flames,” said Brown…
