Long live Eggy’s: Albany food truck reopens as weather warms

After arriving at the office this morning, I popped open the cardboard clamshell containing a bacon, egg and cheese breakfast sandwich from Eggy’s Place. The distinctive aroma of food-truck goodness wafted to a colleague two cubicles over.

“Whoever is eating something, that smells amazing,” he exclaimed.

Whatever is beyond amazing, that’s the taste of a BEC from Eggy’s, which opened for the season in late April. I suppose the eponymous owner has a legal name, but he’s been called Eggy since his breakfast days at the former Quintessence in Albany. Eggy started serving from a vintage food truck — which he swears is still drivable — in 2004. It’s parked in the same place in Albany’s warehouse district, at the corner of Eric Boulevard and North Lawrence Street. Understating the matter, it is not the most scenic spot for outdoor dining, flanked as it is by railroad tracks, I-787 and the tenacious, hulking monstrosity that is the doomed but very much still standing Central Warehouse…
