Driver cited after car leaves road, strikes man in Watervliet

WATERVLIET, N.Y. (WNYT) – Watervliet police said a driver left the road and hit a pedestrian on a sidewalk, leaving the man seriously hurt.

The police department said the crash happened Thursday, May 8, at about 9 p.m. near the intersection of 19th Street and 4th Avenue. Investigators said the vehicle struck a tree, a street sign and the pedestrian before coming to a stop.

Police said speed, alcohol and drugs do not appear to be factors in the crash. The 54-year-old man was taken to a local hospital by the Watervliet Fire Department with serious but non-life-threatening injuries…
