TROY, N.Y. (NEWS10) — A second person has died following a house fire in Troy on April 29, the mayor’s office confirmed on Monday. James E. Olyer, 70, had previously been hospitalized in critical condition.

The fire reportedly broke out at a residence on the 200-block of 5th Avenue at around 3:45 p.m. Upon arrival to the scene, crews said they found heavy fire on the first and second floors, with reports of people trapped inside the building.
Two victims were found on the first floor and sent to the hospital. One of the victims, identified as 67-year-old John Morton, died late that night while Olyer remained in critical condition.
“On behalf of the City of Troy, we extend our deepest condolences to the families, friends, and loved ones of both victims during this unimaginable time,” the mayor’s office said. “This is an unspeakable tragedy for all those affected and for our entire community.”
