Rock band Sugar Ray to headline Empire State Plaza’s July 4 celebration

ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) — The New York State Office of General Services (NYSOGS) announced that the 2026 Fourth of July Celebration at the Empire State Plaza in Albany will be headlined by rock band Sugar Ray. This year’s event will commemorate the 250th anniversary of the U.S.’s 1776 signing of the Declaration of Independence.

Famous for their songs “Every Morning,” “Fly,” and “Someday,” Sugar Ray has released seven studio albums throughout their career, including their multi-platinum selling records “14:59” and “Floored.” Known for their their unique fusion of rock, pop, funk, and metal, the band will bring the energy to the heart of Albany alongside a slate of family activities, including a showcase of American Revolution reenactors, a costume contest, and an Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation exhibit featuring Revolutionary War battle sites in New York.

“New York did not just witness the birth of our nation — it helped shape the ideals, leadership, and resolve that defined America,” NYSOGS Commissioner Jeanette Moy stated. “Team OGS is proud to commemorate New York’s enduring role in our nation’s history by celebrating the people, progress, and spirit that continue to drive us forward.”

Albany’s 2026 Alive at Five concert series lineup announced

“As we celebrate the 50th anniversary of New York State’s July 4th Celebration, Market 32 and Price Chopper are incredibly proud to have presented this cherished tradition since the very beginning in 1976,” Market 32/Price Chopper President Blaine Bringhurst said. “For five decades, this event has brought people together in a spirit of patriotism, pride, and community. This milestone is especially meaningful as our nation commemorates 250 years since its founding, and we’re honored to support a tradition that means so much to families across the Capital Region and beyond.”

The evening will conclude with the plaza’s yearly iconic fireworks show. The July 4 festivities are free to attend, open to the public, and are scheduled to run from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m…
