Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) – An Albuquerque teenager is sentenced today (Tuesday) for two separate murders he committed in 2023. Andres Herrera was sentenced to 40 years in prison which is the maximum penalty under state law, for two separate murders he committed when he was 16-years old in 2023. Although Herrera was a juvenile when the murders happened, he was prosecuted and sentenced as an adult after pleading No Contest to both counts of first degree murder.
Court records indicate that Herrera shot and killed Phillip Apodaca on October 6 of 2023. Apodaca was shot in the back several times according to police. Investigators connected Herrera to the murder thanks to surveillance evidence, including the clothing he wore and the vehicle he was driving at the time.
The second homicide happened on December 27, 2023 when 19-year-old Damion Alday was shot and killed at Sundoro Park in northwest Albuquerque. Surveillance footage captured Herrera firing at Alday at close range.
