ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Former University of New Mexico standout Josh Kerr is officially the fastest miler in history.
Kerr set a new world record in the mile on Saturday at the London Diamond League, crossing the finish line in 3 minutes, 42.66 seconds. His time broke the previous world record of 3:43.13, set by Morocco’s Hicham El Guerrouj in 1999. The record had stood for more than 25 years.
Kerr competed for the University of New Mexico from 2015 to 2018, where he established himself as one of the nation’s premier distance runners.
