Good morning and welcome to a new week!
Seasonable to mild temperatures have settled into the Land of Enchantment with lows reaching the 50s, 60s, and 70s. Today our temperatures are expected to reach the 80s, 90s and 100s with another day of near record heat. Yesterday, some locations just missed out on those record highs, but this afternoon some locations have another shot of setting new records. Locations like Albuquerque, Las Cruces, Deming, Las Vegas and Tucumcari could have the potential to break a record. The near record to record heat is forecasted to stick around in New Mexico this week with the monsoon high as a likely contributor to the heat.
The monsoon high will keep temperatures 5-15 degrees above normal for many areas this week, but as it slides toward southeast Arizona by Wednesday afternoon temperatures in the east are expected to cool slightly. Meanwhile, moisture in the upper atmosphere is expected to thin out leading to isolated shower and storm chances around New Mexico today through about Tuesday. Better storm chances are on expected on Wednesday and Thursday before potentially drier conditions return for next weekend…
