ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – A new study suggests that Popejoy’s Broadway performances have generated millions of dollars for New Mexico, and this impact is expected to grow. These sights and sounds of Broadway draw in millions to New York City, and the excitement is also attracting crowds much closer to home.
Fabianna Borghese, the director of Popejoy Hall, noted, “We’ve had a lot of really big Broadway tours come through in the last few years, and we have some exciting ones coming up in the next season.”
Popejoy’s Broadway season has brought in $47 million over the past two years for the state, and it is anticipated that the current season will generate an additional $26 million, according to UNM staff. This includes revenue from ticket sales, hotel rooms, food, and other spending by the cast, crew, and patrons. Borghese added, “It’s always exciting to bring that level of quality to New Mexico audiences. We love to hear how people make an event out of it.”
