Man who shot New Mexico State Police officer sentenced to 22 years behind bars

NEW MEXICO (KRQE) – He shot a New Mexico State Police officer in the East Mountains, but on Tuesday, he apologized while begging a judge for mercy as he faced years of added prison time.

The NMSP officer who was shot in the neck confronted his shooter in the courtroom on Tuesday. While convicted felon Caleb Elledge argued he’s not a monster, the judge gave him decades more in prison. “As for you, Mr. Elledge, when we spoke in federal court, I told you that I was not angry at you and that I cared deeply for you. This continues to be my attitude today,” said now-retired New Mexico State Police Lieutenant Jeremy Vaughn.
