PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY, Va. (7News) — Authorities in Virginia say they have solved a 52-year-old homicide case, naming a woman’s husband as the person responsible for her death, though he can no longer be prosecuted.
Investigators with the Virginia State Police said Shirley L. Washington, 33, of Washington, D.C., was found dead in Conway Robinson State Forest near Gainesville on Dec. 8, 1973.
Authorities say new investigative work determined that her husband, Clarence E. Washington, was responsible for the killing. He died in 2013 at age 68.
