Highway worker killed in 2-vehicle crash while setting up cones on I-495, police say

OXON HILL, Md. (DC News Now) — A highway worker was killed after a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 495 on Saturday morning, according to Maryland State Police.

The incident occurred around 11:45 a.m. when police responded to a two-vehicle crash on the inner loop of I-495, near exit 4 in Forestville. Emergency Response Personnel from the Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration responded to the scene to assist with lane closures.

Police believe the highway worker was out of his vehicle, setting up cones to assist with traffic control when he was struck by a vehicle. EMS personnel pronounced him dead on scene.

Officials are waiting to notify family before releasing the worker’s identity.
