Severe Thunderstorm Watch issued as strong storms grow and spread across tristate

CHAMBERSBURG- A Severe Thunderstorm Watch has been issued for portions of the tristate area and the areas immediately outside of it.

That Watch has been issued by the National Weather Service until 8pm on the evening of Wednesday, May 20th for;

  • Southern Pennsylvania,
  • All of Maryland
  • Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia
  • Northern Virginia
  • The District of Columbia
  • Nearby coastal waters

The NWS warns that scattered, damaging wind gusts up to 70mph are likely with isolated large hail events up to 1″ in diameter are possible. Thunderstorms will form and spread eastward across the area under the Watch, with it directly hitting a hot, unstable air mass currently over the area.

The Severe Thunderstorm Watch is approximately along and 55 statute miles north and south of a line from 95 miles west southwest of Martinsburg WV to 45 miles east of Harrisburg PA…
