Nazareth Borough Council approved a wide range of motions spanning grants, community events, personnel, finance and infrastructure during the Monday, May 4 meeting, while also advancing a proposed zoning change that will be sent to planning commissions for review.
Among the major items, council approved a resolution authorizing submission of a 2026 Greenways, Trails and Recreation grant application through the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development seeking $140,250 to construct an inclusive handicapped playground at Essroc Fields. If awarded, the borough would be responsible for a 15% match of $24,750, with the total project estimated at $165,000 plus additional in-kind services from the Public Works Department. The grant would be awarded in December and incorporated into the 2027 budget.
Council also approved a resolution to apply for a GrowNorco Infrastructure Grant seeking $50,000 for construction of a lighted carport at the entrance to the Police Department.
