Cherokee County Manager Geoff Morton will retire at the end of the year after 25 years serving the county.
Morton has been the county manager since 2021, when he succeeded longtime County Manager Jerry Cooper.
“Cherokee County was fortunate to have a great candidate in-house when Jerry Cooper retired. Geoff has been an exemplary county manager, providing stable, thoughtful leadership in Cherokee County for the past five years. He picked up where Jerry left off, and has kept our county strong and stable,” Cherokee County Commission Chairman Harry Johnston said in a statement. “Geoff has served Cherokee County well over the last 25 years, and we appreciate all of his work. When he accepted the County Manager position, he told us he would likely only serve about five years. And he’s now given us several months’ notice to develop a replacement plan. We will certainly miss him, and wish him the best in retirement.”…
