In the midst of the worst drought the region has seen in over a decade, high rainfall expected later this week has much of Northeast Georgia under a flood watch.
The National Weather Service in Peachtree City issued a statement Tuesday afternoon saying Hall, Gwinnett, Forsyth, Barrow, Jackson, Banks, Dawson, Lumpkin, White, Towns, Union, Fannin, Gilmer and Pickens counties will be under a flood watch from 4:00 p.m. Wednesday through 8:00 a.m. Thursday.
“A slow moving cold front will bring multiple rounds of rainfall between Wednesday afternoon and Thursday morning,” the statement from the weather service said. “Training thunderstorms…may lead to locally excessive rainfall. Dry soils may see initially quick run-off and increase flash flood risk.”
