AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) — A community eyesore in northwest Amarillo, formerly known as the Hilltop Apartments, finally came tumbling down.
“Well, it’s been years. The living conditions for tenants here was heartfelt,” said Keith Grays, a north Amarillo resident. “How someone could lease these types of apartments to human beings was far beyond anything people could imagine.”

Grays told MyHighPlains.com that over the years, the property started to dilapidate and depreciate, which affected a valuable part of the historic North Heights Neighborhood.
“This is one of the streets that has the most valuable things that taxpayers in North Heights Amarillo access. This is a school, the Warford Activity Center, the Hines Memorial Park, with the famous gazebo for family reunions. And then there’s the city baseball diamond, softball diamond, right behind there. And we’re just a block away from Bones Hooks Park,” Grays said.
