Tuesday, Sept. 1, Google announced the first project to benefit from its $10 million commitment, which launched in June to support community water infrastructure and access projects across Texas in connection to data centers.
The first grant recipient will be the City of Vernon through a $4.5 million contribution to replace an aging water pipeline. According to a news release, by upgrading and investing in the water infrastructure, Google is helping prevent water loss and supporting the resilience of the local utility.
“[Google’s] investment in our infrastructure is more than an investment in our city — it is an investment in economic growth, future opportunities, and the quality of life for our residents,” said Vernon Mayor Pam Gosline. “This partnership strengthens our ability to attract new businesses, support local industry, and create a stronger foundation for generations to come. Without Google’s support, this project would not have been possible.
