Lubbock business news includes Too Good To Go, more

Hello A-J readers!

So far this month, business openings and closings appear to have slowed, which allowed me to work on some other projects. One of these projects involves a Denmark company wanting to reduce food waste and their recent Texas launch.

Too Good To Go is a web-based platform that allows restaurants, grocery stores, bakeries and other food businesses to sell their leftover items to customers at a reduced price. The app is active in several Texas cities, including Lubbock and Amarillo. I spoke with Nick Bigham of Bigham’s Smokehouse in Lubbock and McKinzie Hodges of Scratch Made Bakery in Amarillo to get their thoughts on how it is going.

“We loved the idea behind creating less waste, especially in an industry where we have product on a daily basis that we will not put in our case the following day, as we bake fresh daily,” Hodges said. “(Customers) get to try an assortment of goods they maybe wouldn’t typically try, and find new items they love that they wouldn’t have had otherwise. For the business side, we love being able to send our baked goods home with people instead of trying to find somewhere to take them, bringing them home to our families (who love it but probably overindulge on occasion) and inevitably, toss them in the trash.”
