CANYON, Texas (KFDA) – The West Texas A&M men’s and women’s track and field teams each won their sixth consecutive Lone Star Conference championships at the outdoor championships that concluded Saturday.
Men’s team wins by one point
The Buffs men’s team held off Angelo State by one point to claim the team title with 166 points. The championship came down to the final event, the 4×400 meter relay.
Several West Texas A&M athletes won individual events. Oyeyoni Oyewale-Johnson won the triple jump. Nikolas Kosmopoulos won the decathlon. Mahmoud Ibrahim took first in the shot put. Emil Meggle won the 800 meters. Tobias Ritter claimed first place in the 5K.
Eastern New Mexico showed a strong presence in individual events with Andre Smikle and Cooper Burges winning in the discus and long jump, respectively.
Women’s team scores 250 points
The Lady Buffs won the conference championship with 250 points overall…
