Newport Beach leaders are looking to take a hard stance against social media-driven teen beach takeovers after viral posts brought thousands of young people from out of the city and state to Orange County’s coastline over the Fourth of July weekend.
Over 400 were arrested across that weekend, and about 98% of them had traveled to Newport Beach from another place, according to city staff. About half of those arrested came from Arizona and Nevada.
Now Newport Beach City Council members are looking to track social media posts targeting their city while also eyeing new regulations for Airbnbs and increased security and surveillance measures in town…
