Orange County police warn renters about rising social media scams

Officials in at least one Orange County city are warning prospective renters to be on the lookout for scammers.

“Our department is tracking a sharp rise in rental property scams on social media platforms, including Facebook Marketplace, TikTok and Instagram,” the Placentia Police Department posted Monday.

Police said scammers are taking real descriptions and photos from MLS listings of homes that are for sale and reposting them as highly affordable rental properties…
