“‘Lay With Me’ came from the mindset that you can write something simple and still make it powerful and meaningful,” Forest shares. “Asking someone to lie beside you is such a simple request, but sometimes even asking seems like too much. This song starts off with the first verse as a little confession of tenderness, how much loving someone else can make you into a different person. Throughout the second verse, I wanted a tonal shift into, ‘oh you made me love you, and then you feel guilty about making me feel like that’. At the end of the day, admitting that we’d both want to be next to each other.”
