ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) – For nearly a century, Merrill Field Airport in Anchorage has served as a vital transit hub connecting Anchorage to rural Alaska.
Originally founded in 1930 and named after the late Russell Merrill, an early Alaskan bush pilot who disappeared the year prior, the airport was Anchorage’s first and was ranked in the top 100 busiest airports in the nation as recently as 2010, according to the city.
