LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — A federal grand jury has indicted eight people for allegedly threatening leaders, law enforcement and businesses connected to the University of Michigan and the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Detroit following the Oct. 7, 2023, Hamas attack.
The eight defendants allegedly posted a list of demands on social media directed at University of Michigan leadership, according to the U.S. Department of Justice. The demands reportedly called on the university to make a “full and complete divestment” from Israel and any businesses supporting similar causes.
The DOJ says the defendants were unsatisfied with the university’s response, and were “prepared to take action” against the leadership. These actions allegedly included entering, occupying and defacing university buildings and blocking and disrupting campus events. The defendants are also accused of coordinating these “autonomous actions” during meetings, where they identified targets, and posting “threats” online.
“They used the internet to research personal addresses, photographs, political and social connections, business ownership, and other personal details of the targets. They also discussed methods by which to harm the targets and their families, including poison, bombs, and psychological torture,” the DOJ said in a news release sent to 6 News…
