Ann Arbor puts $200K toward Townie Homes and Avalon Housing projects

ANN ARBOR, MI — Ann Arbor is tapping into its affordable housing fund to provide another $200,000 in development grants.

City Council voted unanimously Thursday, Aug. 6, to approve $100,000 for the nonprofit Ann Arbor Community Land Trust’s Townie Homes initiative and $100,000 for nonprofit Avalon Housing, giving them both up to seven years to spend the money.

The money for the land trust is to help cover pre-development expenses on various Townie Homes sites. The nonprofit is developing 26 affordable for-sale homes for essential workers such as school teachers and hospital workers.

Through deed restrictions, 11 of the homes are to be set aside for households with incomes at or below 60% of the area median income and those ones qualify for the funding, Housing Commission Executive Director Jennifer Hall said…
