A discussion about implementing a potential policy regarding nepotism in city positions was brought to City Council by council member Dean Girbach at the Aug. 17 meeting. According to Girbach, he has asked for a similar policy to be drafted before, but due to the recent transitions in city managers, it hasn’t been done.
“I don’t know what we need to do to do this, but I want a policy in place that clearly indicates that this applies to temporary employees,” he said.
According to Mayor Pro Tem Nicole Rice, the policy does exist in the employee handbook, but it does not specifically address temporary employees. Girbach raised specific concerns about family members of city employees volunteering for election day duties.
