Transformation of former factory into bustling park celebrated west of Ann Arbor

CHELSEA, MI — When Chelsea resident Katelyn Reed and her four-year-old son Elias ventured into Holmes Family Park on its opening day, he gravitated right toward a play area built for his age group.

Elias’s smile was wide as he climbed through a play structure featuring hexagons — a nod to the site’s former life as the Federal Screw Works factory — and banged on metal drums.
